Our Thoughts by Sara Nason, Founder of ResistX
When most progressives imagine what our political landscape looks like today, from the vantage point of a year ago, the thought that a Republican would hold office seemed almost outside of the periphery. If asked if civil liberties would be increasingly limited, and government programs reduced, most would have deemed the mere thought impossible. Yet, here we are, several months into a certain political climate, and the question we must now ask each other is: where do we go from here?
When we launched ResistX close to two months ago, never did we think that there would be such a calling for community that we have received. From the Bay Area back to home in New York City, individuals across the nation have recognized that a space should exist for All Things Resistance. We, as an organization, have begun to also expand nationwide, recognizing the crucial need for a community conversation, which is why we bring to you: Our Thoughts.
Our Thoughts is a space for all: to think about the contexts we’re living in, to question a paradigm, to challenge each other to act more and to use that action for good. Sometimes, the thoughts are simply there – seemingly our worlds are more and more overwhelming, and having a space to express that and to collectively reimagine that emotional process is another step towards creating the democratic framework that we can all get behind. By speaking about how we feel, by creating new conversations, representation by our legislators can once again be driven by the constituencies that voted them into power.
ResistX will always be a space for those who seek to challenge the frameworks we live in by creating a community for resistance to use our voices for good every day. Sometimes, that challenge is difficult: we all have different facets of our lives that seem to take over. But by acting in concert, by challenging the processes that inherently were made to help keep us, as citizens, safe, we can ensure a better tomorrow, for both ourselves and future generations.
Do you have something to say? This is your space. Have you experienced a protest encounter that really compelled you to action? We’re here to talk about it. Our Thoughts is by, for, and of the community that encapsulates ResistX. And now, we want to hear from you.
